Real Movies Fake History is hosted by two friends, Gaz (the film critic) and Mel (the history expert), who each episode discuss, debate and laugh about the real history behind diverse and important cinema.

We seek to discover the true story behind films apparently based on a true story. With a particular interest in gender and cultural representation, we love nothing more than to speak on how a particular film represents the world around us.

Join us as we talk about movies, history, and the truth in between. New episodes launch every month.

Gaz was born in Ireland. Someone had to be. Since working as a cinema projectionist, graduating from film school and writing about everyone from David Fincher to William Friedkin, it seems only fitting this passion for film criticism continues through print and podcasts. Gaz is also a proud member of the Australian Film Critics Association.

Mel was born interested in the past. After studying history at university and traveling the globe visiting her favourite historical sites, she now needs an outlet to talk about her passion. When the opportunity arises, she loves to sip an Aperol Spritz and debate her favourite topic of choice: the bloodbath that is Russian history.
